Things to do
Canada Games Centre
The Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse: opening hours, day pass and membership prices, the pool and waterslide, skating, the track and gym, and how to get there.
The Canada Games Centre is the City of Whitehorse's big indoor recreation centre, and in winter it is where much of the town goes to swim, skate, run and work out. It was built for the 2007 Canada Winter Games and sits at the top of Two Mile Hill. One day pass gets you into the pool, the public skates, the indoor track, the weight room and the drop-in fitness classes, so it is also a good stop for visitors on a cold or rainy day.
Locals call it the CGC.

Schedules and booking
Opening hours are for the building. Swims, skates, fitness classes like Zumba, yoga, strength training and Aquafit, and the gym and field times each run on their own drop-in schedule, which changes with the season and around events. The City keeps these up to date, so check them before you go:
In the drop-in schedule, use the Filter button to pick an activity such as Aquafit, yoga or public skate. Also tick "booked event" and "maintenance", so you see when a tournament or a closure takes over your time slot. Members book fitness classes through the same system.

The pool
The Whitehorse Lions Aquatic Centre is on the main floor.
- A 25-metre lap pool with 8 lanes, a diving board and a Tarzan rope.
- A leisure pool with a lazy river and water features for kids.
- An indoor waterslide.
- A hot tub, a steam room and a dry sauna.
Public swims, lane swims, family swims and Aquafit classes run at set times. At busy times the staff ask you to keep your swim to 45 minutes. The pool closes for annual maintenance for a few weeks in August.
The pool is well set up for people with limited mobility: three pool wheelchairs, a ceiling lift in one change room, a portable lift, a ramp into the leisure pool and lift chairs for the hot tub and the lap pool. Bring your own harness for the lifts.
Lockers in the pool change rooms take coins: 25 cents for a half locker and $1 for a full one. You can also bring your own lock.
Skating
The centre has two full-size ice surfaces, the NHL-size Northwestel Arena and the Olympic-size ATCO Ice, plus a smaller leisure ice for public skating. Public and family skates are on the drop-in schedule, and skate aids for beginners are available during public skating.
Track, gym and fitness classes
- A 215-metre indoor walking and running track on the upper floor, with an elevator. It is stroller-friendly and has stretching areas, which makes it the place to walk when it is -30°C outside.
- The Wellness Centre: about 5,000 square feet of weight room with free weights from 3 to 80 lb, cardio machines and stretching areas, including accessible equipment.
- Drop-in fitness classes in the Wellness Studio and the fieldhouse for ages 15 and older. Members book for free online the day before. With a day pass or a 10-visit pass you book in person or by phone on the day of the class. If you book and do not show up, members are charged a daily admission.
Fields and courts
- The fieldhouse has artificial turf, mostly used for indoor soccer.
- The Flexihall has a sprung hardwood floor for basketball, volleyball, badminton and other indoor sports.
Both have drop-in times and can be rented by groups.
For kids and families
- A child play area for ages 2 to 9, with a guardian present.
- Family swims in the leisure pool, where every child must be with an adult.
- A youth day pass costs $4.63 before GST, and children under 2 are free.
The Raven Recycling Club lets children aged 4 to 16 collect refundable drink containers and trade the points for prizes, including a 10-visit youth pass or a 1-month youth membership.
Food and other services
There is a Subway, a Booster Juice and vending machines in the building. Meeting rooms, party rooms and the arenas can be rented through the City.
The centre is scent-free and smoke-free.
Getting there
The Canada Games Centre is on Hamilton Boulevard, a few minutes' drive up Two Mile Hill from downtown, next to the McIntyre neighbourhood. Parking is free, with accessible spots.
The CGC is one of the three transfer hubs of Whitehorse Transit, so it is easy to reach by bus. Four routes stop here:
| Route | Name |
|---|---|
| 101 | City Central, with connections downtown |
| 202 | Porter Creek West |
| 301 | Copper Ridge North |
| 402 | Whistle Bend West |
Transfers at the CGC are timed, so the wait between buses is usually only a few minutes. Times and maps are at whitehorse.ca/transit, and the TransLoc app shows where your bus is. A cash fare is $3.50. During big tournaments, buses may use the stop on Hamilton Boulevard instead of the one at the door.
